SICK at LINK 2018

by

LINK-dagarna is a career fair at Linköping University with primary focus on technology and IT. Thousands of engineering students from the Applied Physics, Computer Science and more programmes all come looking for new career opportunities, like internships and theses.

Around 70 companies was at the exhibition showing off their products and services for the students. In the days running up to the career fair, lectures about new and upcoming technologies was held by a number of companies to inspire students about different types of technologies and working environments.

At the fair, we demonstrated the Belt Picking application that the Application Engineers have been working on. The application utilizes an TriSpectorP to find objects on an conveyor belt. After finding the objects the TriSpectorP sends commands to a robotic arm about the position and velocity of the object. The robotic arm uses a vacuum gripper to pick up the objects and reposition them at the start of the belt. This illustrates one of the many applications for industrial grade vision sensors to solve problems.

Many students were interested in our robot demo and what we were doing at SICK.
Most first and second year students were interested of knowing what kind of company we were and what we were doing. Here in the office in Linköping, our primary focus is on developing software for our vision products and developing industrial solutions using our own camera systems. Students at the end of their educations asked about summer internships and the possibilities of performing their master thesis at our office in Mjärdevi. We met some very interesting candidates for the remaining few of our in total seven master thesis opportunities for 2019.

The fair gave us an opportunity of spreading the name of SICK and what we are doing at our company. We met a lot of dedicated and social students which we some day might meet back at the office. Now we are looking forward to the next career fair, LARM, which will take place at Linköping University at the 12th of February.

See you at LARM!
